Diversity path positions AVID for better business performance and growth

January 10, 2024 | IN Media Release and News | BY AVID | 2 min read

Workplace diversity is seeing organisations outperform industry peers in profitability, productivity, staff satisfaction and customer connection.

According to the Diversity Council of Australia (DCA) The Case for Inclusion@Work Report, employees in inclusive teams are 9.5 times more likely to be innovative than non-inclusive teams and 8.5 times more likely to work effectively together, a trend that is also occurring throughout inclusive organisations more broadly1.

One of Australia’s largest residential developers, AVID Property Group (AVID), has achieved recognition as a Diverse and Inclusive Employer via the DCA Inclusive Employer Index 2023-2024, for the second year running.

With AVID’s workforce comprising over 30% of people who were born overseas, 21% coming from multicultural non-primary English-speaking backgrounds and over 52% female representation, AVID General Manager People & Culture Colette O’Reilly said prioritising diversity had seen positive business outcomes for the developer.

“Our diverse workforce profile positions us to better understand, reflect and therefore represent the voice of our customers when it comes to product design and service delivery. Leveraging the unique backgrounds, experiences, perspectives and ideas of our people has helped us to be more mindful of the requirements of our diverse customer base.”

“While we are thrilled to achieve this recognition from the DCA, we recognise that we also have work to do. Participation in this survey has helped give us baseline profile data and to identify areas where we can do better. Our opportunity is to leverage data more effectively to identify gaps, prioritise actions and measure our progress,” Ms O’Reilly said.

According to the DCA’s The Case For Inclusion at Work report, inclusive organisational climates are also seeing higher employee retention as people feel secure in their jobs1.

AVID CEO Cameron Holt said diversity within the workplace is an integral part of improving business performance and is in every company’s best interest.

“Ensuring diversity in both representation and decision making significantly impacts on an organisations ability to innovate and grow, and ultimately on the bottom line,” Mr Holt said.

“I firmly believe that having a diverse and inclusive workforce has contributed to our success.”
